Voice Over IP Phone System

The current phone system entails calls being transported through systems referred to as circuit switched technology and it establishes a permanent connection between the caller and the receiver for the duration of the call. The problem with this technology is that significant bandwidth is required and flexibility is low too. It runs on an analog system.

This is where Voice over IP (VoIP) Phone Systems can change the scenario. VoIP refers to calls that traverse networks using Internet Protocol (IP). Calls may travel either over the internet or over privately managed data networks that use IP to transport the calls. The basic difference between VoIP and traditional systems is that VoIP is digital and traditional systems are analog in nature. In a VoIP phone, voice is converted to an electronic signal which is then broken down into packets, compressed, and sent toward the final destination by various routes via the most efficient path.

The biggest advantage of the VoIP telephone system has to undoubtedly be the cost, as it is a fraction of what you would pay to a local phone company.  Moreover, you get all the standard features that are present in a phone costing nothing extra. You end up paying a standard fee and get unlimited long distance and local calling, with no surprises when you get the bill. And it is because of this, home users get a VoIP backup phone, and since they already have cell phones, this can act as a cheap investment. It can also help keep the phone bills down especially if you do a lot of talking. You can chat as much as you and you end up paying just one low fee.

There are a few disadvantages as well. If your internet goes off, so will your phone. If you are on an important call and your internet signal drops, you’ll get cut off from the conversation. And unlike a normal phone, you need electricity to use the VoIP telephone system since your computer needs to be on for it to work. So it is advisable not to be completely depended on VoIP, but most people have cell phones, so it isn’t a huge problem.

Most people choose Voice Over IP  business phone systems just because it is a whole lot cheaper, and in a lot of cases, it is very flexible as well. You just have to get comfortable with the idea of using technology, as it is unlikely that you’ll get a better deal anywhere else.
